Sleepaway Camp III: Teenage Wasteland / USA / 1988
More of the same in Part III. There is a greater emphasis on the comedy and nudity in this one, though. From what I’ve read, the budget was running low by the time the got around to filming Part III, and it shows. The movie could have been better with a bigger budget, but the makers of the film would have probably spent it on crack and hookers anyway. Its only worth watching if you want to finish the trilogy or just want to see some naked people die.
Don’t expect any big budget remakes of the Sleepaway Camp movies with Shannon Elizabeth as Angela and the kids from Dawson’s Creek getting killed. These films are probably best left in the 80’s. Fans of the Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street will want to check these out though, especially parts II & III. Angela has Jason’s locale and M.O. and she has the “Make a pun, kill someone” tendencies of Freddy. I’m absolutely positive what the filmmakers were trying to do. All of these movies are better for a laugh than a scare.
Difficulty of Locating: 2 out of 10, I’ve never been to a video store that didn’t have at least one of the 3, you may have to look harder for part III though.
