A terrific horror/mystery set in a eerily nondescript country village, The Hanging Woman features inheritance feuds, black magic, grave robbing, and of course, diabolical manipulation of the mysterious source of all human life—the nebulus. True, the plot gets a bit hazy at times, but the story never drags, and if you’re still confused by the end, doctor Leon offers up a tidy, point-by-point explanation of nearly everything that’s gone on. A relatively unknown Spanish/Italian production, this one can be found under a host of names, including Beyond the Living Dead; Return of the Zombies; Terror of the Living Dead; and The Orgy of the Dead. Well worth a look if you can find it.
