A Face in the Crowd / USA / 1957
I’ve long believed that appreciation and criticism of a work of art, be it a painting, a book, or a film, should not take into account the personal failings or shortcomings of the artist. But I have not always practiced what I preached. I’ve held off watching many of the films of Elia Kazan because I couldn’t condone his testimony in front of HUAC. Trying to put this aside, I finally got around to watching A Face in the Crowd.
This is a hell of a film.
