What an amazing movie. It’s great that iconic directors such as Burton and Spielberg are not afraid to survey their career highlights (and the career highlights of others) for their 2005 summer blockbusters. War of the Worlds felt like Spielberg going down memory lane, lifting elements from Jurassic Park, Saving Private Ryan, and oddly enough, Schindler’s List (incinerated people, ash left on the survivors), while Charlie indicates that Burton once again feels comfortable in the realm of childhood fairy tale (as opposed to the limited success of an adult fairy tale such as Big Fish).
