Compared to some of the more famous Shaw Bros. martial arts films of the same period, this film is pretty awful. Written and directed by Bruce Lee, Return of the Dragon seems clumsy and very hastily put together, even though the film boasted a budget big enough for location shooting in the Colosseum, no less.
Still, the film is fascinating for its blatant East-meets-West politics, centering around a dispute over a Chinese restaurant in Rome. All of this culminates in the epic battle between Lee and a typically hirsute Chuck Norris among the aforementioned Roman ruins, complete with glistening torsos, joint-cracking, and chest-hair yanking.
