A maddening Halloween treat every year at the Brattle Theater, only this year the crowd was noticeably sparser and less enthused by the film’s relentless, bombastic mayhem. Perhaps it’s possible that some people can grow tired of Evil Dead II – the cynics – but realistically this attendance seems symptomatic of the Brattle’s increasingly urgent need for funding.
By the end of this year, the Cambridge arthouse aims to raise $400,000 in order to nourish their programming for the coming year (they also need another $100,000 by the end of 2006). I’ll be doing my part by attending the Watch-A-Thon.
