The Devil’s Rejects / USA / 2005

Foremost, The Devil’s Rejects is noticeably more accomplished than Rob Zombie’s prior effort about a family of voracious, savage killers. The film, like its predecessor, is also replete with homages to other films. (This trait is made explicit when a police force enlists a Gene Shalit clone to verify the references to Marx Brothers films.) Somewhat derivative, but it is a solid genre effort. At least, the finale, in which Free Bird is blared almost in its entirety, is one of the most appropriate uses of an ironic pop song since Reservoir Dogs.
