Hellboy / USA / 2004

I haven’t seen the comic book that this is based on, but I enjoyed this as much as any comic adaptation in recent years. It’s at very least beautifully designed, and if the dialogue is occasionally weak (especially Hellboy’s disastrous one-liners), the actors seem into it. It’s nice to see Ron Perlman demonstrate (slightly) more range than anyone would ever have expected of him.

And it makes me doubly curious about Toro’s new film, which looks utterly bizarre.
