Breaking Away / USA / 1979

If ever you get the urge to immerse yourself in the tale of a working-class son-of-a-stone-cutter who wants nothing more of life than to become a ten-speed superstar, spend an afternoon with Breaking Away. And assuming you never get that urge, you should still find the time to check out this enjoyably bare bones and unashamedly uplifting coming-of-age flick.

    Not sure I’d deem it “unashamedly uplifting,” but this is something I should see again now that I’m older. If you’re interested in this one, here’s an old review, written when I should have been most sympathetic with these disillusioned characters.
