Psycho / USA / 1998

This I consider to be a resolutely engaging film for the game of spot the difference that ensues in watching it. And among the differences, which re-enforce the older film’s superiority, are: Vince Vaughn is way too large to occupy the boyish and effeminate frame of Norman Bates; some of the wardrobes are ridiculous in color; Viggo Mortensen’s haircut is ridiculous; and Anne Heche’s eyebrows are way too small to convey the spectrum of emotion relayed in Janet Leigh’s. The most accurate theft from the original is the policeman who questions Marion Crane, sleeping in her car.
