High Fidelity / USA / 2000

A fairly shallow experience, but an enjoyable one- Frears and his screenwriters (John Cusack among them) trim the excess fat from Nick Hornby’s novel including, thankfully, the rather smug Clockwork Orange ending where the hero realises what a child he’s been and happily starts attending dinner parties. One bum note- even a lust crazed Jack Black couldn’t possibly suppress a note of horror when hippy- drippy acoustic singer Lisa Bonet launches into ‘Baby, I Love Your Way’.
