… Forever and Always … / USA / 1978

A gawdy and labyrinthine cautionary tale about infidelity and the travails of child-rearing, via some of George Kuchar’s most distended pop-culture pastiche. Kuchar was apparently commissioned to document a “Hooray for Kids!” festival in his adoptive hometown of San Francisco, but his interpretation of the proceedings (featuring a mother dragging two kids through throngs of people in trash-filled streets) isn’t exactly in the event’s intended spirit.

I watched this in the same evening as Eastwood’s The Bridges of Madison County, and while both films deal with the cruel indignity of housewifery, at least Kuchar’s film is self-consciously one-dimensional.
