Overboard / USA / 1987
Overboard is an enjoyable film, despite its ham-handed generalization of nature versus nurture, which is potentially its most engaging concept. At least, it’s a succinctly manipulative film, lending Goldie Hawn’s spoiled debutante amnesiac judgment as she’s retributively employed for a carpenter she stiffed. That you come to sympathize with this character evidences Hawn’s charisma—either that, or my inexplicable fondness for her, which is soon to be revealed here…
