Superman Returns / USA / 2006
Low expectations going in, which probably helped me enjoy this more than I thought I would. The decision to keep the Williams score, the (still) cool title font and the little references to Christopher Reeve helped tremendously, as did Parker Posey’s amusing performance as Lex’s girlfriend.

I, too, had low expectations going in, but seeing the film with a die-hard D.C. fanatic enhanced my experience. The film was visually stimulating (as was Brandon Routh), which distracted from the somewhat silly story.
Although a minor point, what I found most endearing was Jimmy O’s charming adoration of Mr. Kent. No one pays Mr. Kent much notice, but Jimmy bakes a cake to celebrate his arrival, secretly photographs and “can’t stop talking about” him. Perhaps developing good ol’ Olsen would have made the story more interesting.
