Little Children / USA / 2006

Had the director gotten rid of the absurdly superfluous voice-over, this movie might have been somewhat watchable, but as it is, the film reeks of smug condescension and boasts a dreadful ending that encourages viewers to feel sympathy for the local sex offender while simultaneously cheering on the fact that he, um, won’t be striking again.

    Interesting perspective in these comments. I myself liked how the movie turned the tables, if only for some moral social theorizing (frankly, by demonizing housewives and sympathizing with child molestors, I think the movie outdoes Crash as far as goes questioning stereotypes); I myself am very keen on recognizing the ways in which good people do bad things, and vice versa. By the time Haley castrated himself, however, I think I was beyond trying to like the film, and had settled for simply enduring the remainder of the sermon.
