Days of Glory / Indigenes / France / Morocco / Algeria / Belgium / 2006

The epilogues in the present day that Spielberg ended both Schindler’s List and Saving Private Ryan always seemed to me most unnecessary, very different from the effect of Days of Glory’s final sequence, both essential to the film’s project and quite moving. The film itself, a big budget French mainstream war movie with an avowed agenda of depicting past racism and present-day injustice, is well worth seeing, even if it isn’t innovative in any way.
