I was enjoying this film until the last forty minutes, when it seemed as though our two main characters—a killer who can’t remember the past and a cop who can’t forget it—had become caught in some strange, endlessly repetitive storyline. The killer is dying, but then he’s only faking. The cop is listening to the killer’s clues, but then he’s not really listening—anyone paying close attention understands that “pita with a ‘t’” is a hint, not a request. Still, this film was immensely popular overseas, which makes me wonder where all the lock-pissing copycats were.
