The Young Ones / UK / USA / 1982

I’m told this overstated British sitcom is somewhat of a reaction against Monty Python proper, but I find it correlates to a large extent with its predecessor. Scenes evolve subsequently with little foresight: in one episode, Neil (the “long-suffering hippie”) has a violent head cold, and by the end he is killed and resuscitated multiply, re-emerging as a trio of zombies due to the exceptionally fertilized soil he was buried in. Like many of my favorite shows of its ilk (namely, Knowing Me, Knowing You) The Young Ones elicits the strongest laughter with determined, relentless redundancy.
