Screening Log, January 2008

Scoop
UK / USA / 2006

The turnaround that Match Pointseemed to mark clearly hasn’t held, and here we have a film with similar ingredients — the British upper class, romance, murder — that in the end is a minor effort for the fans (of which I was certainly one in the eighties). So, there’s a pleasure to be got from the familiarity of it all — how one aspect reminds you of one Woody Allen film, one aspect of another — there are worse ways to spend your time in the cinema (and unlike in the UK, I could actually see it in a cinema), but it’s hardly memorable.
