Tenebre / Unsane / Italy / 1982

Argento’s return to the giallo after Suspiria and Inferno. He’s in rare form as he strikes the exact right balance of visual style and narrative content. The on screen Argento stand-in Peter Neal repeatedly dances around the question of whether or not his gory works of art glorify violence. Argento answers for him by making one of the most beautiful tributes to violent death in the history of cinema.
